Sorry Its been awhile..

I have been really lax on the posting lately (sorry!). Have been busy doing various things, including finishing the house renovations. Phil and I finished painting the front of the house on the weekend and it looks great! Apart from the rest of the yard haha! But it’s getting there and we will soon have a brand new white picket fence like a proper house!
Any who in between doing that and various other things such as scrubbing muddy kitty print’s off the floor (how do they get them everywhere?) and watching the royal wedding, (yes I had to mention it! wasn’t her dress great!) I finally finished reading the 4th Wicked Lovely book (Radiant Shadows). For some reason I struggled to finish the book even though I was enjoying the story. I strongly suspect that it’s due to an overload of reading the series one book straight after the other, so I am going to have a wee break before reading the 5th book, Darkest Mercy.
I am going to start reading tonight (after yoga class of course) Cecelia Ahern’s The Book of Tomorrow. And I’m quite excited! I have had this book for quite some time now, and I keep putting it off due to library books I have reserved. But I finally have no more books from the library as I purposely did not get any so I could get round to reading this. I will let you know what I think.

Wisdom for your Wednesday...

Today I am going to share a beautiful poem by David Bates, which I came across the other day. His words make alot of sense to me, we really should be more considerate of those around us, for we all are going through things be it something small or large.

Speak Gently
Poet: David Bates

Speak gently: It is better far
To rule by love than fear;
Speak gently: Let not harsh words mar
The good we might do here.

Speak gently to the little child
It’s love be sure to gain.
Teach it in accents soft and mild
It may not long remain.

Speak gently to the aged one,
Grieve not the care worn heart;
The sands of life are nearly run,
Let such in peace depart.

Speak gently, kindly to the poor;
Let no harsh tone be heard.
They have enough they must endure
Without an unkind word.

Speak gently to the erring; know
They may have toiled in vain;
Perchance unkindness made them so,
Oh, win them back again

Girl Crush

Ok today i am admitting to you all that i have a girl crush on Nicole Ritchie. And yes i do realise she used to be chubby and trashy and yes i do realize that 90% of the time now she is a walking skeleton, but i just can't seem to shake it. She just really does it for me. She has defintaely changed since her days on the simple life with co star Paris Hilton. Nicole is now a mum of two and married to rocker Joel Madden from band Good Charlotte.

She is probably my fav style icon in the spotlight. She has this crazy bohemian look that she always pulls off, and she can also wear something more sophisticated for the red carpet. Her hair is always spectacular, I am forever taking cut outs of her into my hairdresser, dreaming of having her color or style. There is also this ensemble that she seems to pull off effortlessly time and again- its black stockings under denim shorts worn with a floaty shity and a waist coat. If you read the trash mags you will see she wears this variation many times and always pull's it off.

So you can see I was definately excited when she started her own jewellery line House Of Harlow and clothing line Winter Kate. So here i will share some of may fav looks of Nicoles, in the hopes that you will start crushing on her as well! Enjoy...

see what i mean about the shorts and shirts!

adore this draped coat

House of Harlow jewellery!

Nicoles own design

Marchesa Dress- did i mention i love Marchesa?

Nicoles Wedding Dress!

Whew, that was alot of pictures! I didn't realise I had so many. And I love them all! What did you think? Do you have a favourite look? Or do you disagree with me tottally and not like her at all? Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, i was having a little break during the queens birthday weekend. Had a lovely lazy weekend!

Wisdom for your Wednesday..

Life is an ongoing succession of births and deaths.
From this perspective, we must seek our goal and mission in something that transcends birth and death, something that we can give our whole life to.
Only then can we tap the inexhaustible potential of life.
In other words, we must advance beyond the mere struggle to stay alive and be prepared to ask ourselves for what purpose we live our lives.

Review: Sparknotes, Romeo and Juliet

Spark Notes NO FEAR SHAKESPEARE Romeo and Juliet (SparkNotes No Fear Shakespeare)Spark Notes NO FEAR SHAKESPEARE Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Woohoo! just finished reading Romeo and Juliet. Ah such a sacrifical love. I wish men these days were as romantic as Shakespeares characters. Not that killing yourself for love is the right road to take, it would just be nice to have someone scale a wall to climb into my window and declare their love for me. Phil actually did jump in through the window last night when I called out Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo!, but he hardly had to scale any large walls. And then he proceeded to directly leave the room without so much as giving me a peck on the cheek. Ah men these days.

Anywho, so im not going to review Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, because I feel it is so great that it cannot be reviewed. I mean if shakepeare didn't do an amazing job why would we be taught his stuff at high school?
What I am going to review is this particular copy of Romeo and Juliet.

I picked up this book from my local library because I really love shakepeare and hadn't read this play since high school so wanted to refresh my memory. But i remember back to when i last read it, and most of you will agree I think,(either that or i'm just really daft, which I may well be..) when it comes to reading shakepeare quite often you think he means one thing but he really means something quite different.

Well this addition of the play has the orginial text on the left hand page then on the right hand page the modern english translation of what shakepeare is really meaning when he say's eg: Is she a Capulet? O dear account! My life is my foes debt. The book is by Sparknotes, who have made modern english translations alongside the orginal works for many many differnt books. All I can say is I wish I had this book when I  was at high school because it would have made life sooo much easier! I love it! Now I know exactly what Shakespeare meant and can understand better the themes and conflicts.

Spark notes actually have a website,on it you can find all the different books they have on offer, you might just find a translation for a book that you struggled with at high school. I recommend this book wholeheartedly, especially for students.

Now I am going to move on to reading The book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern. Which if you have been following me for awhile you will know I have blogged about this being a new release this year. And I actually brought the book a few months ago with a voucher I got at christmas but haven't quiet been able to get round to devouring it yet. So watch out for my review soon!

Review: Promise of the Wolves

Promise of the Wolves (Wolf Chronicles, #1)Promise of the Wolves by Dorothy Hearst

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis: Never consort with humans. Never kill a human unprovoked. Never allow a mixed-blood wolf to live.

At least that’s what the wolves of the Wide Valley believe. Until a young wolf dares to break the rules—and forever alters the relationship between wolves and the humans who share their world.

Born of a forbidden mixed-blood litter and an outcast after her mother is banished, Kaala is determined to earn a place in the Swift River pack. But her world is turned upside down when she saves a human girl from drowning. Risking expulsion from their pack and banishment from the Wide Valley, Kaala and her young packmates begin to hunt with the humans and thus discover the long-hidden bond between the two clans. But when war between wolves and humans threatens, Kaala learns the lies behind the wolf’s promise. Lies that force her to choose between safety for herself and her friends and the survival of her pack—and perhaps of all wolf- and humankind.

Set 14,000 years ago, Promise of the Wolves takes you to a land where time is counted in phases of the moon, distance is measured in wolf lengths, and direction by the scent of the nearest trail. Join Kaala and her pack in an epic adventure of wolves, humans, and the remarkable bond we share.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was captivated by this book from the moment i read the synopsis on the back. I thought this is my kind of book! And it was. If you are an animal lover, or are interested in a heart warming tale, you will enjoy this book.
It is read from the point of view of Kaala, a young wolf trying to fit in with her pack mates but marked with a difference she can't hide from. She escapes death due to her mixed blood only because of her crescent moon marking, which legend claims will be worn by a wolf who will change all of wolfkind. And change them she does, by interacting with a human that she finds herself drawn to even though it is forbidden to associate with each other. This is because the last time they interacted, a war burst forth between them. She is guided in the direction of the humans by a spirit-wolf whom only she can see.
Hearst has created a well rounded culture within the wolves, showing them to not just be wild and reckless creatures, but moral and political with laws of their own, which are determined by their elders and pack leaders.
I loved escaping into Kaalas world, and feeling her sorrows and joys. I highly recommend this book, its a lovely story and there is more to come as this is only the first book in what is to be a trilogy.
Wisdom for your Wednesday...
Here's a little wisdom for your Wednesday. Take from it what you will, hopefully it will benefit you in some way either great or small. I am going to make this a regular post.
Peace and happiness are available in every moment. Peace is every step. We shall walk hand in hand. There are no political solutions to spiritual problems. Remember: If the creator put it there, it is in the right place. The soul would have no rainbow if the eyes had no tears.
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. we are a part of the earth and it is a part of us.
~ Chief Seattle
