The grass is not so green on the other side of the ditch...

Well once again Australia is hit by another disaster. They just can’t catch a break can they? Let’s pray that disasters only come in threes.

In what is the 3rd disaster in just under 4 weeks for Australia. At least 59 homes In Perth have been destroyed by a raging bush fire which continues to create havoc. The area of Roleystone has been declared a disaster zone by the states premier yesterday. Luckily no deaths have been reported but more than a dozen people have been treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was triggered by sparks from an angle grinder. Come on people… please realise you need to be careful with things like angle grinders near dry grass its just logic.

The fire comes after the state of Queensland has just been ravaged first by flooding then a category 5 cyclone which left 35 people dead.
At least $500 million dollars (Aus) worth of agricultural production has been wiped out by cyclone Yasi and recent flooding.  So expect the price of sugar to rise as Australia produces a large chunk of the world’s sugar and Queensland contributes about 50% of that. Damn and chocolate prices were already going up!

It’s good to be a New Zealander…

I Adore - Christian Dior!

If you haven’t already checked out Dior’s 2010 Autumn/winter collection, then you need to do so. Yes I know I’m a bit behind here, but seriously it’s gorgeous. The collection is full of airy fabrics; its ultra feminine and romantic. The ready to wear collection has and old world 18th century feel to it. Galliano (the Designer) has paired the airy fabrics of the dresses with leather jackets, jodhpur pants and thigh high boots, for an equestrian theme. Nature was the inspiration for the couture collection; the designs are like flowers in bloom they are spectacular in vivid colours. Check out both the Couture and the ready to wear, they are both fab.
Here are a few of my fav’s:

Well a girl can dream at least…

Possibly, the best feed of my life:

Tucked away on an unknown level of a Beijing market building, is a food court. You won't see foreign faces in this food court, well we didn't...
Following the grumbling of our stomachs after a busy morning haggling with locals, our feet took us to this food court bursting with local foods. After taking our time browsing over the selections we could choose from, we decided on the most fun option. It was a hot pot, where you walked along in a line and pointed (as Chinese was the language of choice, an neither my friend or i could command the language) at what you wanted in your hot pot. Knots of noodles, bunches of unknown greens, morning glory, and unknown to us copious amounts of chillies and garlic!

I can still feel the burning in the pit of my stomach. Amazing the chillies didn't put me off, even though i have never been a huge fan of hot food. But there was just something so tasty about those Chinese chillies, the memory is still stuck with me.
So if you are ever in Beijing i would recommend a visit to this ( if you can find it) food court and try and eat your own way through one of these giant bowls.
